Azul Takes Delivery of First Embraer E195-E2

On September 12, 2019, Brazilian airline Azul Linhas Aéreas Brasileiras S.A. took delivery of the first Embraer E195-E2 for commercial service. The aircraft is being leased from European lessor AerCap. Azul expects to take delivery of six E195-E2s from lessors in 2019 and has a further 51 direct orders of the aircraft. Next month marks the expected beginning of commercial service.

About the Embraer E195-E2

Following the introduction of the middle-of-the-range E190-E2 with Norwegian regional airline Widerøe, the E195-E2 is the second, and largest, of the new Embraer E-Jet E2 family.

Azul’s E175-E2 delivery, yet-to-be-built, will be the smallest aircraft in the family.  With a maximum capacity of 146 seats in a high-density one-class layout, the E195-E2 is the largest commercial jet Embraer has ever built.

Azul will be a little more generous than that, equipping the type with 136 economy seats.

Binter Canaries will be the second airline to operate the Embraer E195-E2.

What Embraer Thinks

John Slattery, President & CEO, Embraer Commercial Aviation, said this:

“Today’s delivery is a momentous occasion. It’s the largest commercial aircraft Embraer has ever built. Passengers are going to love the new interior and airlines are going to love the extraordinary operating economics. It’s absolutely ideal for Azul’s low-fare business model and for AerCap’s fleet portfolio. I’m proud of everyone on the Embraer team who worked so hard to see this day.”

What Azul Thinks

David Neeleman, Azul’s founder and chairman of the board, commented:

“Over the last 10 years, Azul revolutionized the Brazilian aviation market. We have helped to double the domestic market by providing service to regions, cities, and communities that have never had service before, all thanks to the Embraer E195-E1 aircraft. Now with the E195-E2, we are ready to launch the next chapter in Brazilian aviation. We could not be more proud to bring this Brazilian aircraft, built with Brazilian technology and innovation to the Brazilian skies. The E2 represents the next significant step in Azul’s fleet transformation, further powering our margin expansion story well into the years to come”

What AerCap Thinks

Angus Kelly, CEO of AerCap, added:

“Everyone at AerCap is thrilled to deliver the world’s first Embraer E195-E2 aircraft to Azul. We have no doubt that this incredible aircraft will drive two of Brazil’s global leaders to new heights. We wish both Embraer and Azul every success with the E-Jets E2 program and we look forward to working with both of them for many, many years to come.”
